Arbitration contacts for new car lemon problems

Automobile manufacturers are required by state law to maintain an informal dispute resolution system (arbitration) for autos meeting certain state guidelines. Some will arbitrate beyond the statutorily required guidelines. Here is a list of manufacturers, the arbitration system, and the phone number to call to file a complaint for arbitration. The BBB AUTO LINE program handles many of the complaints.

*** If an oral hearing is requested, Chrysler uses Dispute Settlement Operations Center as the arbitrator. If the oral hearing is waived, a 3-member panel of arbitrators appointed by Chrysler makes the decision. In either case, complaints should all be mailed to the same address listed above.

    Guides to features, prices (MSRP and invoice), technical info on automobiles. Industry news such as recalls. Allows one free request for up to date pricing information on an auto (rebates, etc.) with fees for subsequent requests.

Automobile Lemon Law Complaints
How to complain about a new car defect under the Commonwealth's lemon law.

Consumer Protection Division of the Kentucky Attorney General's Office
This tells you what to do if you have a complaint against a business and how to file a complaint against any business with the Kentucky Attorney General's Office, Consumer Protection Division.

National Fraud Information Center 
If you have a telemarketing complaint or a complaint about an internet-based business, you can file it online. NFIC, in cooperation with the Federal Trade Commission and the National Association of Attorneys General, will forward the complaint to the appropriate agency.

Company reports

Attorney General of Kentucky, Consumer Protection Division
Upon request and as time permits, we will tell you how many complaints we have received against a company and whether there has been a satisfactory response. We may ask for a phone number at which to call you back while we research the information. We cannot advise you if you should do business with a particular company. In Louisville, call (502) 429-7134. Elsewhere, call our Frankfort office at (502) 696-5389. To ask for information on business opportunities or charitable solicitations, call the Frankfort number and ask for the registration section.

Attorneys General--Other States 
Some states will give out information regarding complaints about a business while some will not. In some instances, initial consumer complaints are not handled by the attorney general's office but by another state agency. The link above will take you to the site for the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) which has a complete listing of all the states' attorneys general.
