You show up for others. Let somone show up for you.

Kentucky law enforcement officers stand by us every day. Stand by the Badge is our commitment to stand by them. This program is the product of zealous collaboration among law enforcement leaders, legislators, and professionals from across the Commonwealth. We are grateful to those who have shared their experiences, helped us understand the challenges facing our officers, and brought forward solutions that can make a difference.

Every day, these brave professionals put themselves in harm’s way to protect our families, serve our communities, and hold offenders accountable. It is our responsibility to stand with them not only in response to crisis incidents, but also throughout the chronic daily stress of this difficult profession.

Support for Law Enforcement

The demands of a career in law enforcement are unique, and the challenges officers face can take a toll on their well-being. Supporting the mental health and wellness of our officers is an essential part of supporting the people who dedicate their lives to serving others.

Our Office launched a secure and private website where officers, deputies and troopers can connect with Peer Support Specialists, find professional service providers who are experienced in working with law enforcement, and access wellness resources.

Grant Awards

When we facilitate our law enforcement officers to support one another, we contribute to more mission-ready officers, stronger teams, and ultimately safer communities. Kentucky has some of the finest law enforcement officers in the business. We are honored to stand with them to put peer support programs in place that can offer hope, connection, and support when they need it most.

Stand by the Badge initiative provided $5,000 grants to stand up or enhance local peer support teams. These programs across Kentucky will both allow departments to create new or augment existing teams.

The 2026 awardees include:

• Ashland Police Department

• Daviess County Detention Center

• Elizabethtown Police Department

• Laurel County Sheriff’s Office

• Paducah Police Department

• Scott County Sheriff’s Office

• The Northern Kentucky Police Chiefs Association

• Warren County Sheriff’s Office

By connecting officers with colleagues who understand the unique demands of the profession, peer support programs create opportunities for connection, resilience, and hope while strengthening individuals, teams, agencies, and communities.

This practical guide provides best practices and resources to help agencies establish or strengthen peer support programs, promote officer wellness, address chronic stress, and fosters a culture where officers feel comfortable reaching out for support, knowing they do not have to face challenges alone.

We are proud to share this resource with agencies across Kentucky and the nation.

Stand by the Badge initiative was made possible through a grant from the nonprofit, bipartisan Attorney General Alliance.
