Civil and Environmental –Attorney Vacancy
The Kentucky Office of the Attorney General, Office of Civil and Environmental Law is seeking highly motivated attorneys interested in public service and upholding the rule of law to join our team of legal professionals. The Office is primarily tasked with defending challenges to state statutes under both the federal and state constitutions, as well as defending claims against state judges, prosecutors, agencies, and employees arising out of the performance of their respective government functions, in both state and federal trial courts. Once joining our team, you will assist the Office in all phases of litigated cases from inception to resolution, including investigation, pleadings, discovery, pre-trial, trial, settlement, and appeal. You will also be an integral part of developing and implementing effective case strategies in collaboration with other team members.
The successful applicant will:
- Have a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school;
- Be admitted to the Kentucky bar or eligible to seek admission to the Kentucky bar by examination or motion; and
- Have strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
Five or more years of civil litigation experience preferred, but attorneys with less than five years' experience will be considered and are encouraged to apply.

Office of Legal Counsel - Paralegal or Legal Secretary
The Kentucky Office of the Attorney General, Office of Legal Counsel is seeking a paralegal or legal secretary. The Office is tasked with comprehensive legal and risk mitigation advice and counsel to the Attorney General and executive staff on issues involving general government law, ethics, compliance matters, and agency policies and procedures. Once joining our team you will provide administrative support and oversite of the Office's open record's response and records retention obligations as well as assisting with other projects of the Office as assigned under the direction of the General Counsel.
The successful applicant will have:
- A bachelor's degree in paralegal science or a bachelor's degree with a minor in paralegal studies OR two-year program in paralegal studies OR post-baccalaureate certificate in paralegal studies OR comparable experience as a paralegal or legal secretary OR a degree from a college of law;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively;
- Attention to detail;
- Computer knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe;
- Ability to review documentation for accuracy; and,
- A Commitment to timely meeting deadlines.
