Office of Senior Protection

As part of Attorney General Andy Beshear’s Mission in protecting senior Kentuckians, the Office of Senior Protection was established. The Office of Senior Protection is responsible for administering and offering a “triage” of services and training, to equip senior Kentuckians, and collaborating senior stakeholders in protecting seniors against fraud, scams and financial exploitation.

Gerina Whethers​​​Gerina Whethers heads the Office of Senior Protection. Whethers has serv​ed as the executive director in the Office of Victims Advocacy at the Office of the Attorney General. Whethers served as chair by proxy of the Child Sexual Abuse & Exploitations Prevention Board and worked on the annual Victims Assistance Conference and other trainings throughout the Commonwealth for victim advocates, prosecutors, law enforcement and first responders across the Commonwealth.

Prior to the Attorney General’s Office, Whethers accumulated 10 years of service working on criminal cases in Jefferson County. She worked as assistant county attorney in the Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault Unit for Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell, prosecuting cases of child sexual and physical abuse, domestic violence and elder abuse.

Whethers also served as a staff attorney in Jefferson County Circuit Court performing extensive legal research and writing opinions covering a wide range of criminal and civil legal cases. Additionally, Whethers served as trial commissioner for Jefferson County District Court.
