Attorney General Jack Conway today is participating in an internet safety forum from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Meyzeek Middle School in Louisville, 828 S. Jackson St.  The event is hosted by Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY).

“I appreciate the chance, on my second day in office, to hit the ground running and work with parents to help protect our children from internet predators,” Conway said.

In addition to Conway and Rep. Yarmuth, local and national experts will talk with parents about information they need to know to keep their children safe while online.

“The advent of social networking sites and chat rooms has certainly created new challenges for parents,” Conway said.  “We need to make sure our parents and children have the information they need to have a safe experience while surfing the web.”

Conway has pledged to create an internet crimes unit within the Attorney General’s office that will work with local law enforcement officers to protect children from internet predators and prevent residents from becoming victims of online scams or identity theft.  For information and tips about protecting your children, your identity or your bank account, visit www.ag.ky.gov.

“I appreciate Rep. Yarmuth’s leadership on bringing these issues to the forefront and organizing an open discussion that brings all the players to the table to find real solutions for our citizens,” Conway said.
