A letter from the Attorney General
Dear Victim Service Providers:
The Office of the Attorney General is proud to host the 2009 annual Victims Assistance Conference. Despite budget constraints, my office remains committed to victim advocacy and to ensuring justice and healing for crime victims, both young and old, in Kentucky.
Through our Victims Assistance Conference, we will again offer training on a variety of topics with a focus on the prevention of violence and exploitation of women and children. We are very pleased to have Byron Hurt, an award-winning documentary filmmaker, writer and anti-sexist activist, joining us as our featured kickoff speaker.
The keynote speakers for our closing session, Mary Kozakiewicz and her daughter, Alicia, will address an issue that remains a top concern of mine; cybersafety and protecting children from online predators. The Kozakiewiczs will share their story of how Alicia, then 13, was lured away from her Pennsylvania home by someone she met online.
We can do more to protect Kentucky children from online predators. That is why I am promoting legislation that will bring Kentucky laws up to date with technology and better protect our children from the dangers that exist on the Internet. I hope you will join me in calling your representatives and senators to support this important legislation.
Finally, I would like to commend you for the tireless work you do every day to assist victims and their families. The services you provide give hope to the hopeless and lend a powerful voice to Kentuckians who are often in their darkest hours.
We look forward to seeing you at this year’s training event.
Sincerely,

Jack Conway
Kentucky Attorney General
