​​​Prosecutors fighting the war ​against corruption, drugs, and violent crime​

The Special Prosecutio​ns Division prosecutes criminal cases purs​uant to KRS 15.190 to 15.240 and KRS 15.715. Special prosecutors are responsible for assisting local prosecutors in complex or sensitive cases, as well as handle cases in which the local prosecutor disqualifies himself and to prosecute thefts from the Commonwealth by employees or elected officials.

​​​Shawna KincerShawna Virg​in Kincer heads the Special Prosecutions Unit. Kincer has served as the executiv​e director of the Special Prosecutions Unit at the Attorney General’s Office. Kincer worked as an assistant commonwealth’s attorney in the Fayette Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office from 2000 to 2003. She worked as an assistant in the 14th Judicial Circuit from 2003 to 2006. She then rejoined the staff of the Fayette Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office in September of 2006. She has spent her entire career as a prosecutor and has focused on high profile murder cases along with drug and other violent crimes throughout the Commonwealth. She is originally from Greenup County and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor in Arts in Psychology. She earned her law degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 2000.
