FRANKFORT, KY (March 29, 2005)
– Attorney General Greg Stumbo, who drafted the Internet
Pharmacy portion of Senate Bill 63, offers his comments
regarding Governor Fletcher’s signing of the methamphetamine/Internet
pharmacy bill into law at 3 p.m. at Owsley County High School
in Booneville.
Stumbo, who is unable to attend the signing,
had this to say: “I believe that Senate Bill 63 is
one of the most important pieces of legislation that resulted
from this session. This new law is a strong step forward
in curbing the drug epidemic facing the Commonwealth. We
are limiting access to large quantities of methamphetamine
precursors and making the sale of drugs from rogue internet
pharmacies illegal. As pharmacies begin to keep many common
over-the-counter allergy and cold remedies behind the counter
and restrictions are placed on the illegal sale of drugs
over the web, Kentuckians can feel the law is on their side
as they work to protect their children against the ravages
of drug abuse.”
Attorney General Stumbo also expresses his appreciation
to Bill sponsors Robert Stivers (R-Manchester) and Mike
Weaver (D-Elizabethtown), as well as the original sponsors
of the Internet Pharmacy legislation, R.J. Palmer II (D-Winchester)
and Dick Roeding (R-Lakeside Park).
