Attorney General Announces Former Officer of Letcher County Home Medical indicted on Charges of Lying to Medicaid

FRANKFORT, KY (March 14, 2005) – Attorney General Greg Stumbo announced today that on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, the Franklin County Grand Jury returned an indictment against James Narramore, a former officer of Letcher County Home Medical, an eastern Kentucky medical equipment company.

According to agents from the Kentucky Bureau of Investigation (KBI), Narramore, 50, had been convicted of a felony offense in Virginia prior to coming to Kentucky, seeking to open his medical equipment company. In his application to Kentucky Medicaid he denied any criminal history, and based partially on that assurance, was granted a Medicaid provider agreement.

Letcher County Home Medical, the company he billed through, took in more than $400,000 in Medicaid billings after Narramore’s fraudulent application. If convicted Narramore could serve up to 15 years in prison.

The case is being handled by Nyra Shields, Assistant Attorney General, with the Kentucky Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control Division. Suspected fraud can be reported to this unit by calling the Attorney General’s Tip Line at 1-877-ABUSE TIP (1-877-228-7384).
