Attorney General Stumbo Exposes Counterfeit Movie Ring
FRANKFORT, KY (March 23, 2006) – Attorney General Greg Stumbo announced today that agents from the Kentucky Bureau of Investigation and detectives from the Louisville Metro Police Department seized pirated DVD videos and arrested a state corrections officer in an undercover sting operation. The correctional officer, Glenn T. Sluman, employed with Luther Luckett Correctional Facility, illegally obtained first run movies over the internet and his accomplices sold copies through South Park Video store in Louisville.
KBI agents and LMPD detectives executed search warrants on the business of Wesley Stafford, South Park Video located at 4003 South Park Road, Louisville, and his residence located at 489 N. Skyline Drive, Louisville. Also, a search warrant was executed at the residence of Sluman, located at 11710 Slate Run Road, Louisville. The searches resulted in the arrests of three (3) individuals charged with counterfeiting of DVD videos. The individuals arrested were Glenn T. Sluman, a correctional officer; Wesley Stafford, owner of South Park Video and Tanning; and Melissa Schott, an employee of South Park Video and Tanning. Eighty-four different movie titles, DVD burning equipment, electronic equipment for mass production, and label making equipment were seized.
The initial investigation began on February 27, 2006, and undercover purchases of counterfeit DVD videos were made from the South Park Video store. Sluman and Stafford were charged with four (4) counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument and Schott was charged with one (1) count of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument. The investigation is ongoing.
