Attorney
General Stumbo Announces Former Resident Aide Of Oakwood Facility
Indicted And Arrested
FRANKFORT,
KY (September 26, 2005) - Attorney General Greg Stumbo
announced today the indictment and arrest of a former resident
aide of the Communities of Oakwood in Somerset, Kentucky.
Gary Mounce, age 44, of Liberty, Kentucky, is accused in the
one count indictment with hitting a mentally retarded male
resident of the facility with his fists in August of 2004.
Numerous allegations of patient abuse have had the Kentucky
State Police, Division of Long Term Care (the state agency
that regulates facilities like Oakwood) and agents of the
Kentucky Bureau of Investigation conducting a far reaching
inquiry of the Pulaski County facility.
Attorney General
Stumbo said, “I have devoted a team of experienced investigators
and prosecutors to examine issues at Oakwood. “We will
protect all facility residents who may be at risk”,
Stumbo said.
If convicted,
Mounce faces up to ten (10) years in prison and a permanent
exclusion from working with the elderly or developmentally
disabled.
The case is being
prosecuted by Mary Cartwright of the Attorney General Medicaid
Fraud and Abuse Control Division. It was investigated by KBI
Agent William Stewart. Mounce is in custody on a $10,000 full
cash bond.
Gary Mounce is
scheduled to be arraigned in Pulaski Circuit Court on October
27, 2005 at 9:00 a.m.
