Bullitt County Grand
Jury charges Sheperdsville Police Officer with Sodomy
FRANKFORT, KY (February 16, 2005)
– Kentucky Attorney General Greg Stumbo announced today
that a Bullitt County grand jury has indicted a Sheperdsville
Police Department officer on two counts of Sodomy in the First
Degree involving a minor child following investigations by
the Kentucky State Police and Bullitt County Child Protective
Services.
The indictment alleges that the officer, Adam
Wheeler, had deviate sexual intercourse with the minor child
on two occasions between March 1, 1997 and March 31, 1999,
prior to joining the Sheperdsville police department. Wheeler
has been on administrative leave from the police department
since the investigation began in September 2004.
If convicted of Sodomy in the First Degree,
Wheeler faces a possible prison sentence of twenty years to
life imprisonment on each charge. Wheeler was arraigned this
morning on the charges in the Bullitt Circuit Court. The Court
set Wheeler’s bond at $50,000 and a trial date of August
11, 2005. Stumbo announced that his Special Prosecutions Division
will handle the prosecution of the case.
